The Oscar-nominated film Wild starring Reese Witherspoon will be shown in the main theater of the Latchis on Sunday, June 16th at 4:00pm in honor of Wild’s author Cheryl Strayed visiting Brattleboro later in June.  Suggested admission for the film is $10.

Watch Strayed’s adventure unfold on a big screen along the striking Pacific Crest Trail before seeing her live at the Latchis on June 25.  At twenty-six, grieving the death of her mother, Strayed hiked more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State alone.  Witherspoon’s performance in the film captures the joy, beauty, hardship and lessons of Strayed’s journey as the first woman to hike this trail by herself.

Of the film, A.O. Scott of the NY Times said, “Wild may be full of natural beauty but it is also a celebration of the power of art.”  “A ruggedly beautiful and emotionally resonant saga of perseverance and self-discovery,” raved Justin Chang from Variety.  “Wild is more than a showcase for Reese Witherspoon’s performance, it’s a meditative journey that is refreshingly funny, insightful, and poignant,” noted Sandy Schaefer of Screen Rant

The film screening of Wild is a benefit for Brattleboro Area Hospice, celebrating its 40th anniversary.  The organization provides end of life, bereavement and advance care planning support free of charge to the community.
