It’s a Wonder!

My name is Anne Senni and I started as a hospice volunteer coordinator with BAH on May 10. As a newbie here, I am daily impressed with the rightness of purpose of this organization. On a deep personal level I feel a swelling sense of gratitude and a rejuvenation of hope. When one focuses on the world at large it is easy to become despondent, given the enormity of the challenges we face. For me, trying to find a right-sized emotional response has been difficult.  On a psychological level I found myself grappling with grief and unresolvable anger too much of the time. On an intellectual level it seemed like an unapproachable gigantic mega problem. Too much! Too big! At BAH, we have the opportunity, the gift really, of being able to effectuate a  small but significant shift toward goodness, a positive impact in areas of great need. The most wonderful part of this is the fact that that impact is made simply by way of the organization of kind, giving souls who we point in the direction of those who need their help. With training and support these everyday amazing folks change lives, and soften and enrich some of the most upsetting times in our human experience. It’s a wonder! (Continue reading.)

I am so looking forward to this iteration of my life! For the last several years I’ve worked in home health care, mostly caring for the elderly and often the dying. It’s difficult work but as rewarding as any I’ve done. I’ve been a shopkeeper, a printer, a writer, a bartender and waitress, a salesperson, a teacher, a nanny and too many other small roles to count. Among many other rich lessons, I’ve learned  from my roles of mother, grandmother and mentor that love and commitment are at the heart of positive connections.  I’ve been what I call a small-scale activist since my teenage years, but haven’t felt the sort of hope and can-do spirit that I find at BAH.

Thank you all for all the good work you do and thank you for letting me join you on this journey.
