Willow the Cat Finds a Home

Willow Finds a Home
by Kris McDermet, Hospice Care and Bereavement volunteer

In May of this year, Stewart participated in a Brattleboro Area Hospice vigil case.  He sat with M for one visit before she sadly passed away in her home, which she shared with her cute Tuxedo cat, Willow. M had adopted her from the Windham County Humane Society several years earlier and enjoyed her antics and love.  The day before M passed, Ruth (Hospice Care Coordinator) sent out an email to several of her volunteers to see if they could provide a new home for Willow.  Within 10 minutes of that email we said yes.  Several years earlier, over a short period of time, our wonderful Ruby, Sancho, Honey, and Scooter had passed and we were pet free for these years — the Covid time was pretty quiet around our home!

M passed as she wanted, with her devoted sisters helping to care for her and Willow but they were not able to take her and we were the lucky family for her second adoption.

She is shy, lively, loves to be petted and brushed, and to sit/sleep on our porch or the window sill behind our computer.  As an early riser like her new person, we are up at 4 AM, she eating her food and me drinking coffee.

She is a small cat but very present: We can tell she had loving care by M and we are thankful she came to us next.

This is such a good example of two Brattleboro nonprofit groups who have such positive influences in the lives of many in our community!
