Bereavement Volunteer Coordinator Job Description

Responsibilities

A 16-hour per week position providing bereavement volunteer and client support.  Reports to the Bereavement Program Coordinator. 

Functions

  1. Coordinates bereavement support groups, including launching, promoting, and supervising volunteer facilitators and directly facilitating groups.
  2. Assists with monthly volunteer support gatherings.
  3. Assists with coordination of public events (i.e., Memorial Garden Service, Lantern Walk).
  4. Program coverage when the Bereavement Program Coordinator is out, including doing intakes. 
  5. Assists with planning and facilitating volunteer in-services.
  6. Assists Bereavement Program Coordinator when working with schools, organizations, and businesses seeking grief support. 
  7. Maintains electronic and paper forms and filing according to organizational policy. 

Qualifications

  • Experience in the area of grief and loss and group activities
  • Supportive and compassionate listening skills
  • Knowledge and acceptance of Hospice philosophy and practice
  • Initiative, creativity, and willingness to be part of a team in the delivery of services
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, presentation, written, and telephone skills
  • Education: B.A. in human services and relevant experience preferred
